Nothing leaves your device. Files are decoded and re-encoded in this browser tab.
Output targets
None of these images have transparency, so a JPEG export will look identical to the source.
Canvas re-encodes every pixel, so this is a decode-and-encode round trip, not a byte-level container swap. We do not claim lossless conversion anywhere in this tool.
Settings apply to every image in the batch once you upload.

How it works
Drop your JPGs and PNGs
Mixed batches are fine. The uploader records the detected format of each file so you can see what is being converted from what.
Set the WebP quality
82% is a good starting point for photographs. Push it higher for images with fine texture or text.
Compare and download
Each result card shows the WebP byte count next to the percentage change from the source. If a file got bigger, that is a signal to lower the quality or stay with JPEG.
When WebP is worth it
- Your own storefront — Shopify accepts WebP and serves it directly, so the smaller file is a real page-speed win.
- Transparent product cut-outs — WebP keeps the alpha channel at a fraction of PNG’s size, which PNG cannot do.
- Not for Etsy — Etsy’s accepted list is .jpg, .gif, .png, .svg and .heic. A WebP upload will not work there, whatever the size savings.
Why some files get larger
WebP is not universally smaller. A JPEG that was already encoded at quality 70 with an optimiser can beat a fresh WebP encode at 82, because you are compressing an already-compressed image. Watch the measured delta — if it goes up, either lower the quality or keep the original format. The tool never claims a format is always smaller.
Transparency, handled correctly
WebP supports an alpha channel, so a transparent PNG converted to WebP keeps its transparent pixels — no background colour is forced. Only when you switch the target to JPEG does the flatten colour apply, and the Convert tab warns you when the batch contains images that would be affected.
Questions
Is WebP supported in every browser?
Encoding and decoding are supported in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari 14+ and Opera. If a browser cannot encode WebP the export fails with a clear message instead of producing a file with the wrong MIME type.
Does WebP keep transparency?
Yes. Unlike JPEG, WebP has a real alpha channel, so transparent PNGs convert without being flattened.
Will Amazon or Etsy accept WebP?
Etsy does not list WebP among its accepted formats, so use the Etsy preset (JPEG). Amazon lists JPEG, TIFF, PNG and non-animated GIF and says it prefers JPEG, so JPEG is the safe choice there too. Shopify explicitly accepts WebP.
Can I convert WebP back to JPG?
Yes — the same tool works in the other direction. Set the output format to JPG and choose a flatten colour, since JPEG cannot store the alpha channel.
Does the conversion lose quality?
At any quality below 100%, yes. WebP is lossy in that mode by design. The measured file size tells you what you paid for it.
