Shopify Image Resizer
2048 × 2048 WebP with transparency kept, inside Shopify's 5000 px / 25 MP / 20 MB limits. One aspect ratio across the set so collection grids line up.

Output targets
Each selected marketplace supplies its own output size — Shopify uses 2048 × 2048 px. Switch to a custom size to override them all.
Fills the frame and trims the overflow — the usual choice for product grids.
Settings apply to every image in the batch once you upload.

How it works
Upload the product media
Shopify accepts PNG, JPEG, TIFF, BMP, GIF, SVG, HEIC and WebP. This tool takes the web-safe subset and rejects the rest with a reason.
Keep one crop ratio for the whole set
Shopify shows featured images side by side on collection pages. Mixed ratios look broken there, which is why the crop step applies to the batch, not the image.
Export WebP and check the weight
WebP keeps transparency and lands far below the 20 MB ceiling. Each result card shows the measured byte count anyway.
What Shopify publishes
From Shopify’s product media documentation, read on 2026-11-03:
- Product and collection images can be up to 5000 × 5000 px, or 25 megapixels.
- Files must be smaller than 20 MB.
- Accepted types include PNG (described as the best choice for most product images), JPEG, TIFF, BMP, GIF, SVG, HEIC and WebP.
- For square product images, 2048 × 2048 px usually displays best.
- A consistent aspect ratio across featured images keeps collection pages aligned.
Why the preset uses WebP rather than PNG
Shopify calls PNG the best file type for most product images, and for flat graphics and cut-outs that is right — PNG is lossless and keeps transparency. For photographs, a 2048 px PNG is routinely 4–8 MB while the same image as WebP is a few hundred kilobytes.
Since Shopify serves images through its CDN and re-encodes for each breakpoint, the uploaded master mainly needs to be big enough and clean enough. WebP gets there without the weight. If you specifically want PNG — a logo, a screenshot, an image with sharp flat colour — switch the output format in the Convert tab; it is one click.
The two limits that look like one
Shopify states both a 5000 × 5000 px ceiling and a 25 megapixel ceiling. For a square image those coincide exactly: 5000 × 5000 is 25 MP. They diverge only for non-square media, where the megapixel count can bite before the dimension count. This tool reports both rules but they share a single bound in the checklist rather than pretending to be two independent measurements.
Questions
Is 2048 × 2048 required by Shopify?
No. It is Shopify’s stated recommendation for square product images. The hard limits are 5000 px per side, 25 MP and under 20 MB. Anything smaller than 2048 is flagged as a recommendation, not a failure.
Does Shopify accept WebP?
Yes, WebP is explicitly listed among the accepted product media types, alongside PNG, JPEG, TIFF, BMP, GIF, SVG and HEIC.
Why does my collection page look uneven?
Almost always mixed aspect ratios. Themes place featured images side by side and each one keeps its own shape. Crop the whole batch to one ratio here and the grid straightens out.
Will Shopify re-compress my upload?
Yes. Shopify’s imagery service generates multiple sizes and serves the best format for the visitor’s browser. Uploading a clean, correctly sized master is what matters — the CDN handles the rest.
Can I prepare Amazon and Shopify versions at once?
Yes. Select both targets in the workbench and you get an Amazon folder of white-background JPEGs and a Shopify folder of WebP files from the same batch, in one ZIP.
