Etsy Image Resizer
2000 × 2000 JPEG with transparency flattened onto white — because Etsy renders transparent PNG areas as black. Format and size checks follow Etsy's own help centre.

Each selected marketplace supplies its own output size — Etsy uses 2000 × 2000 px. Switch to a custom size to override them all.

How it works
Upload the listing photos
PNGs with transparent cut-outs are detected on load and flagged, so you know which files will be flattened before you export.
Crop to square — or switch to 4:3
Etsy recommends landscape or square, and the same shape for every photo in a listing. The 1:1 default suits grid thumbnails; pick 4:3 if you want landscape.
Check the 1 MB warning
If a file lands over 1 MB, Etsy warns that uploads may not finish on slow connections. Drop the quality slider and re-prepare.
What Etsy publishes
From Etsy’s help centre article on image requirements, read on 2026-11-03:
- Listing photos should have a width and height of at least 2000 pixels.
- The first listing photo should be at least 635 px in each direction to avoid lower search placement.
- Accepted file types: .jpg, .gif, .png, .svg, .heic — and nothing else.
- Animated GIFs and transparent PNGs are not supported; transparent areas appear black.
- Images larger than 1 MB may not finish uploading on slower connections.
- The first photo should be landscape or square, and all photos in a listing should share a shape.
- At least one photo must be an unedited shot of the actual item.
Why the Etsy preset refuses WebP
WebP is smaller and better in almost every technical respect — and Etsy does not accept it. The preset encodes JPEG and flattens transparency onto white, which is the combination that satisfies both Etsy’s format list and its “no transparency” rule. Forcing WebP here would produce files that look fine in your folder and fail at upload.
Square or landscape?
Etsy’s own guidance leans landscape, because listing thumbnails are wide and a square photo gets cropped in the grid. It also says to avoid square crops. At the same time, many sellers keep a square master image for reuse across platforms.
The default here is 2000 × 2000 so the same batch can be reused elsewhere. If Etsy is your only channel, switch the crop ratio to 4:3 and set a custom size of 3000 × 2250 — that is the shape Etsy’s own guidance points at.
Questions
Why does my transparent PNG turn black on Etsy?
Etsy does not support transparent PNGs. Transparent pixels are rendered as black, which is why cut-out products can appear on a black box. This preset flattens the image onto white before export so the alpha channel never reaches Etsy.
Is 2000 × 2000 required?
It is Etsy’s recommendation for listing photos, not a hard gate. The 635 px figure is the practical floor for the first photo. Anything below 2000 px is flagged as a recommendation miss, not an error.
Can I upload WebP to Etsy?
No. Etsy lists .jpg, .gif, .png, .svg and .heic. Use the Etsy preset, which exports JPEG.
What about the 1 MB limit?
Etsy describes it as a risk — images over 1 MB may not finish uploading — rather than a hard rejection. A 2000 px JPEG at quality 90 usually lands around 300–600 KB, so the default is comfortably inside it.
Does resizing count as “editing” under Etsy’s authenticity rule?
Etsy requires at least one unedited photo of the real item and forbids edits that hide flaws. Cropping and resizing for display are normal; replacing your only real photo with a heavily processed composite is not. Keep one untouched shot in the listing.
